Vulcan's have the ability to read the thoughts an emotions of those that they come in physical contact with.
Though it is rarely a spontaneous occurrence, because Vulcan's are trained from early on to shield against such a happenstance.

I would never purposely read someone's thoughts without their permission. [The fact that it happened a couple of times already accidentally was beside the point....]
