Personal Log #12 - Planning [Video]

[Spock fiddles with the journal for a moment, making certain that the message is broadcast to everyone but Nico Robin.]

Greetings and salutations everyone. It is my hope that everyone has recovered from the latest Malnosso experiment, as from what I heard from others, I do not envy your experiences.
At this time, I find myself with a request for those of you who are familiar with Miss Nico Robin. It has come to my attention that due to recent events, Miss Robin's emotional disposition has greatly suffered, and it is my wish to see it improved. From what I understand of various cultural habits, it is common to utilize various festive activities to improve emotional morale. These activities should consist of conditions that are agreeable to Miss Robin, so if there is anyone who is aware of what Miss Robin enjoys, please inform me as soon as you can.
I am asking for assistance in planning this gathering... I believe the proper term is 'party'? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as well as refraining from telling Miss Robin about this.
The time and location for this gathering will soon be disclosed.

[Spock lifts his hand in a Ta'al.]
Peace and long life.

[Elizabeth jumps a little at the sudden expanse of sky and grass, but she's clearly in awe of it--she's never been in a field so sprawling.]

Oh! Yes, this is plenty of space. Something like this doesn't need much space to begin with. [She holds out her hand for the shirt.] May I?

[Elizabeth takes the shirt, pausing briefly in surprise at Spock's question. Well, it was a fairly normal question for anyone--no one had really mentioned it before, though.]

I suppose so. I was born with only half of this finger. [She worries the thimble out of habit.] It isn't really pretty to look at, so I cover it with this.

[Elizabeth takes a moment to stare, bemused, at Spock for a moment. Then she allows herself to laugh--lightly, not derisively.]

Well I am human, so I guess it makes perfect sense for me to do it. [And seeing as they're pointing physical things about themselves out...] But you're not human, are you? [She smiles, maybe looking a little too thrilled by it, and makes a little hook motion around the shell of her ear to indicate Spock's.]

Well, what a coincidence. I'm pretty sure mine was too. [Not enormously funny, but she thinks it's somewhat clever.]

A Vulcan... I've only heard of Vulcan, of Roman mythology. But I'm not surprised, I'm only from Earth in the year 1912. Are Vulcans from another planet, then?

[Elizabeth looks up curiously as the sky darkens, but then as the stars start to appear her face lights up as though she's falling in love again. God, she loves stars. So many stars, all around them, not seen through a large window.]

[She turns and looks where Spock is pointing. It's beautiful, that orange-red star.]

And where is Earth's system in relation to... 40 Eridani A?

I am. [Elizabeth marvels at the distance. Sixteen point four five four light years. If Elizabeth remembers correctly, the distance is sixteen and a half years of a particle traveling at the speed of light. Amazing. And in Spock's time that distance could be traveled in twenty minutes. If she was anyone else from her time, the idea might have completely overwhelmed her little brain.]

I had a window where I was kept, but the lights from the tower prevented me from seeing many of them. But more than that... before I came here, the biggest adventure I'd ever thought of was traveling to Paris. Can you imagine? Barely halfway around the world. I had never dreamed... that all of this existed...

No! [Elizabeth laughs and spins around a little, to take in the other side of the room.] No, this is wonderful! This is beautiful!

[She turns back to Spock.] I just wish I could see it all.

Really? [Elizabeth comes very close to Spock, all excitement. It wasn't the real thing, of course, but it might be as close as she could get. And that, in terms of space travel, is enough for her.] I would love that!

Is the Starship Enterprise your, ah, space ship, then? Forgive the simple term...

[WOULD SHE?]

Yes! Does it look anything like an X-Wing?

[Because she learned how to fly one of those.]

Yes, he was my first introduction to life away from Earth, I confess. [Elizabeth does the smiling, looking curiously at the Padd as Spock presses buttons on it.] He taught me a little bit of flying.

Well, there was a lot of trial and error. [Rough simulation ends...] But I liked it enough to keep...

[Elizabeth trails off as the setting changes and her mouth hangs open. It's like she's in a Jules Verne novel, but so much better. Immediately, she starts looking at the various readouts on the consoles--and of course she can't understand them, but they're interesting nonetheless. And there are lights in the floor and space outside and--]

You live here? [She turns around, spotting what looks like a set of doors.] It's bigger than this. How big is this space ship? [She knows it has to be huge. This is space travel, and there were so many places to sit, everyone had to sleep somewhere.]

We're here? [Elizabeth points to the small spot too.] In this tiny spot.

[It looks absolutely nothing like an X-Wing, and Elizabeth loves that. So many different ways to build something, so many different interpretations.]

Only three hundred and twenty-four? I would think you'd need five hundred at least to cover the entire ship! It's massive! [She grins, then turns back to Spock.] But I suppose if three hundred and twenty-four people live on this ship, a little space every once in a while goes a long way.
