Personal Log #12 - Planning [Video]

[Spock fiddles with the journal for a moment, making certain that the message is broadcast to everyone but Nico Robin.]

Greetings and salutations everyone. It is my hope that everyone has recovered from the latest Malnosso experiment, as from what I heard from others, I do not envy your experiences.
At this time, I find myself with a request for those of you who are familiar with Miss Nico Robin. It has come to my attention that due to recent events, Miss Robin's emotional disposition has greatly suffered, and it is my wish to see it improved. From what I understand of various cultural habits, it is common to utilize various festive activities to improve emotional morale. These activities should consist of conditions that are agreeable to Miss Robin, so if there is anyone who is aware of what Miss Robin enjoys, please inform me as soon as you can.
I am asking for assistance in planning this gathering... I believe the proper term is 'party'? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as well as refraining from telling Miss Robin about this.
The time and location for this gathering will soon be disclosed.

[Spock lifts his hand in a Ta'al.]
Peace and long life.

Well, there was a lot of trial and error. [Rough simulation ends...] But I liked it enough to keep...

[Elizabeth trails off as the setting changes and her mouth hangs open. It's like she's in a Jules Verne novel, but so much better. Immediately, she starts looking at the various readouts on the consoles--and of course she can't understand them, but they're interesting nonetheless. And there are lights in the floor and space outside and--]

You live here? [She turns around, spotting what looks like a set of doors.] It's bigger than this. How big is this space ship? [She knows it has to be huge. This is space travel, and there were so many places to sit, everyone had to sleep somewhere.]

We're here? [Elizabeth points to the small spot too.] In this tiny spot.

[It looks absolutely nothing like an X-Wing, and Elizabeth loves that. So many different ways to build something, so many different interpretations.]

Only three hundred and twenty-four? I would think you'd need five hundred at least to cover the entire ship! It's massive! [She grins, then turns back to Spock.] But I suppose if three hundred and twenty-four people live on this ship, a little space every once in a while goes a long way.

[Elizabeth blinks when the bridge disappears, looking slightly disappointed when the field returns. It didn't exactly have the same charm as the ship did...]

[But, yes, they were there for another purpose!]
Oh, of course! Sorry I, get distracted by things that are new.

[Elizabeth puts the shirt down on the grass, spreading it out slightly. Stepping back, she takes a moment to breathe and feel for the tear. It's harder, she isn't upset right now. But eventually, she sees it.]

[A wrinkle forms between her furrowed eyebrows, and Elizabeth eases her fingers into the crack and starts pulling it apart like a pair of elevator doors.]

[As Elizabeth's hands pull apart, a wavering hole rimmed with concentrated blue light forms seemingly in midair. It's a three-dimensional phenomenon, it can be walked around and observed from every angle-- a little mind-boggling for something that was described by Elizabeth as a 'hole'. Arcs of air seem to be moving around the hole, in and out of it, and the larger it becomes the more strain Elizabeth seems to feel. As intangible as the hole seems, Elizabeth's motion as she opens the tear is incredibly physical.]

[The opening widens over the shirt, engulfing it and creating a window into a static, gray world. But the grass is there, and so is an object that still looks like a shirt. It's hazy and surrounded by a blue ring. And when Elizabeth has a moment to look down and see that the tear has something behind it, she blows the tear open.]

[The hole, the light, the entire phenomenon vanishes. But there's a shirt there, still laying in the grass. It just looks slightly different....]

[Elizabeth sniffs and checks her nose. There's a little bit of blood, but nothing like what had happened when the invasion had happened. Whatever siphon was in place in Luceti, it was either causing the other reality to blow back in her face and result in some hemorrhage, or it was too much strain. She pulls a handkerchief out of her pocket, covers her nose and leans forward.]

It's more impressive when I'm not here, to be honest. [She laughs a little.] I used to be able to change... entire fronts of buildings. I could create new worlds based on a new set of variables and step into them. Whatever device is being used to keep me under control... it's much stronger than anything I've experienced. [She indicates the slightly bloody handkerchief.]

Oh, no, not at all! I'll be fine in a moment. Usually this doesn't happen. [She smiles and waves Spock's concern away.] But "usually" doesn't really apply here most of the time, right? I think I'm just overdoing it trying to resist whatever is keeping my power in check, but it wasn't uncommon for people to develop nosebleeds when dealing with other realities where I'm from. I just never did, for some reason.

Yes, that's exactly how I've felt most of the time! [Elizabeth sounds glad to finally have someone tell her that she wasn't the only one feeling muffled, so to speak.] I mean, I'm used to feeling some amount of pressure on me, I grew up around it after all, but this was the second most intense suppression that I've felt in my entire life.

[Elizabeth looks curiously at the shirt, frowning slightly. It didn't appear to have changed very much at all--but when Spock explains she looks very excited.] Really? Amazing! I thought I had just brought in the same shirt made of a different material. You know, coffee instead of tea, a blue towel instead of a white one... I haven't done something this complex in a while!

But you know, all universes are subject to alternate timelines. At least, according to the scientists who first discovered these tears. Yes, there are certain things that stay the same through every one--'constants'--but there are things that change--the variables. And they can change the world entirely.

Oh, you've spoken with Robert! [Elizabeth smiles, apparently completely unconcerned that Spock disagrees with Robert's theory. Truth be told, she can only talk about what she's observed, what she's walked through and created and so forth. But the fact that she arrived at Luceti and found both her bird necklace and the cage Booker hadn't picked meant something, hadn't it? Robert and Rosalind hadn't even arrived when Elizabeth had found them.]

He and his... sister, Rosalind Lutece, have done a lot of research into the theory of multiple worlds based on choice. I don't know if it's true, but they do have some perspective that I don't. Robert won't tell me everything just yet, though.

What's your opinion on Luceti, then?

[Elizabeth actually laughs at that one, though it peters off when the stars reappear. She's apparently easily distracted by stars...]

Well I'm not asking for your opinion on everything. Just... how we got here. [Her smile wanes a little as she continues to look at stars.] Every once in a while, I think that maybe my ability is being used to kidnap people. It has been used against my will before, via machinery. But in my world, whenever someone from a different reality encounters an alternate one, the recoil the body experiences is terrible. I don't understand how people can arrive here and not feel anything.
