Personal Log #7

Greetings and salutations. I believe that it is customary for one to welcome those who are newly arrived into Luceti.

Welcome.

To those who have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I can be found regularly at the Battle Dome for those who want to learn to utilize the simulations.

A reminder to everyone that the Kobayashi Maru simulation has been tested and is ready for public use. I will express my thanks to Mister Obi-Wan Kenobi, Miss Ami Mizuno, and Miss Lirael for testing the program for me.

I also find myself requiring assistance for a project that I have agreed to.... though I find myself now at an impasse. I am currently working on a small scale version of projected diburnium-osmium shield technology... with some minor alterations. If anyone is familiar with this or is willing to help, please inform me.

Peace and long life.

[Action]

[Spock found himself once again frustrated by the recent memory lapse... for one who highly values mental discipline, it is... unnerving to find that your mind has been tampered with. However, Spock has long ago come to terms with this place and its disregard for dignity.

In the morning Spock can be found at the Dome by the computer terminals...but in the late afternoon strange, hauntingly beautiful music can be heard coming from House #2's backyard.
The Vulcan was pleased to have completed his Lyre, and was now enjoying an afternoon of practice.

In the evening, Spock actually ventures out to Seventh Heaven and can be found at a solitary table with a cup of tea.

Come and bother Spock at any and all of these locations.]

...As long as I don't do anything stupid that will upset the Doc.

[Translation: as long as he doesn't get caught.]

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-06 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
...I dunno. Is the sun still outside?

[If you can get me out of the building for a bit, it would be really appreciated.]

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-06 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Derek's 'thank you' is almost inaudible but heartfelt as he lowers himself into the chair. It's not really his style, but he has a feeling that Spock would be as likely to let him totter off with just the crutches as Adele would be.

And he suspects the Vulcan would be a lot more effective in preventing Derek from going.

So, wheelchair it is. At least it would get him out and somewhat around.]

So how long have you been here?

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-08 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Derek's not sure how long he'll be comfortable with letting Spock push the chair, but for now, he'll let it slide. Maybe one the Vulcan lets go he can sneak his own hands down there...]

Yes and no. "new as in, as far as I know, I just got here in January. Not so new as in there's several folks who say I've been here before. so...there you go.

I'm adjusting all right, I guess. Need to be home, but until we figure out how to get out, or I supposedly get bounced home again, not much to be done about it. I'm just hoping that whole thing about time standing still is true. [Otherwise, he'd be going home to an ugly mess.]

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-13 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like I've said; I'm not a fan of people messing with my head. Vampires are bad enough when they start that up.

[He's quiet for a few moments before speaking again.]

Really hope that's true. Can't afford to lose the time otherwise; it'll end up killing a lot of people.

[And him with his hands already tied further than they were. Damn it.]

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a long hesitation here; even though it's been eating at him ever since he woke up in the snow, he's more or less kept the situation back home to himself. There's no point in dwelling on something he couldn't fix at the moment.

Not that it makes it any easier to sleep at night.

He weighs his answer before speaking again.]

They've found a way to erase their weakness to sunlight. And over half my crew is out of commission--including one of them being captured, and another one about to...die from the infection. I've got maybe eight hours to come up with something to stop what's going on and get what's left of my team out.

[There, that doesn't sound too bad, right? Mind you, he's leaving out the fact that the captive will be used in the ritual to take away the weakness to sunlight...and that Derek had been on the way in to kill the other team member before the infection could turn her. That...didn't really need to be relayed, although the weight of that knowledge probably shows in his voice and the restless twitch of his wings.]

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-13 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Derek's jaw clenches and his wings tighten up and plaster flat against his back. It's not a rejection of Spock's sympathy, but rather an effort to keep himself on an even keel. He's only too aware that most if not all of his team will be dead by the end of it, probably even him. But he can't afford to mourn. Not yet. Not until it's done and maybe not even then.

His voice is quiet, but more or less steady when he answers.]

You'd be grieving for a long time; it's not that unusual for a hunt like this to go bad. It's part of the risk we all take, every time.

...but, thank you.

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-13 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Derek's smile is nothing short of sardonic in reaction to Spock's first sentence.]

Yeah, I know. It's why I usually work solo.

[But not this time. Damn you, Brody. You should have let him go it alone, as usual.

Derek tears himself off that thought. Now was not the time...]

Thanks. Not sure I'll take you up on that, but I appreciate the offer.

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-14 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
{And that elicits a chuckle.]

I know that too. My Aikido sensei was big on that sort of thing.

[He works on at least making his wings relax. The damned things had been like an emotional barometer ever since he'd gotten there, and even though he'd gotten used to keeping them under broad control pretty fast, they still had a mind of their own if he didn't keep an 'eye' on them.]

Yeah. Not much for just sitting around. Doing my best to follow the Doc's orders, but I won't lie; I'd rather be hobbling around on my own accord than this.

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-14 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
[...Intimidated...? Derek's not sure how to respond to that one. For him, it's more of a mostly good natured acknowledgment that she'd make his life hell and wear herself out in the process if he decided to be a pain in the ass about it all.

So it might be more of a round about way of showing the Doc some sort of (grudging) respect for her decisions. Maybe. Even if he'll give her a hard time about it anyway when they talk.)

This of course, he keeps to himself. But for once, Spock is not the one in a conversation raising an eyebrow...]

Yeah, I guess I am, a little. What's your idea? And...Spock?

[Here he pauses for a minute, then just decides to be honest.]

I'm alright with wheeling myself. You don't have to...and it'll keep my arms strong, anyway.

[And maybe save the hunter a little dignity in the process.]

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-14 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so do I. She's a good woman. Which is why I'm behaving myself.

[With no small amount of relief and appreciation, Derek takes hold of the wheelchair wheels himself and starts slowly motoring on.]

...so what kind of food here do you like?

[personal profile] rather_be_surfing 2013-02-14 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess you could always ask someone to learn for you...

[He pauses for a second, then smiles a little.]

Tell you what...pretty sure you have things to do. So if I keep my promise to stay in this chair, do you need to head back?

[OOC: Run, Spock, run! Also--had fun myself!]
