Greetings and salutations. I believe that it is customary for one to welcome those who are newly arrived into Luceti.

Welcome.

To those who have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I can be found regularly at the Battle Dome for those who want to learn to utilize the simulations.

A reminder to everyone that the Kobayashi Maru simulation has been tested and is ready for public use. I will express my thanks to Mister Obi-Wan Kenobi, Miss Ami Mizuno, and Miss Lirael for testing the program for me.

I also find myself requiring assistance for a project that I have agreed to.... though I find myself now at an impasse. I am currently working on a small scale version of projected diburnium-osmium shield technology... with some minor alterations. If anyone is familiar with this or is willing to help, please inform me.

[Action]

[Spock found himself once again frustrated by the recent memory lapse... for one who highly values mental discipline, it is... unnerving to find that your mind has been tampered with. However, Spock has long ago come to terms with this place and its disregard for dignity.

In the morning Spock can be found at the Dome by the computer terminals...but in the late afternoon strange, hauntingly beautiful music can be heard coming from House #2's backyard.
The Vulcan was pleased to have completed his Lyre, and was now enjoying an afternoon of practice.

In the evening, Spock actually ventures out to Seventh Heaven and can be found at a solitary table with a cup of tea.

Come and bother Spock at any and all of these locations.]

[Spock smiled despite himself...

He enjoyed Buffy's company.]

You must surprise individuals on a daily basis.

...You could always indulge me in a round or two while we wait for our life-changing fries.

[ she waggles the fingers on one hand, as if challenging to vulcan to a good old-fashioned arm wrestle. ]

YOU MUST HAVE A LOT OF STRENCH!

Very well, I am amenable to your suggestion..

[Spock guarded his mind, then placed his arm in the appropriate position.]

Amenable.

[ she parrots the word with a smirk, lodging her elbow on the table and nudging the vulan's tea a few inches out of the way before she clasps her fingers around his. ]

On three?

[Spock tests his hand against hers.... and finding himself mildly surprised at the solidity there.]

One.

[ she says with a smile, prompting him to all the next number. ]

Two...

[Spock braces his arm... ready for the last count...]

Three -- [ her hand clenches and she pushes against his palm. not aggressively, but firmly -- as if she expects considerable resistance due to her pat history with the vulcan. ]

[Spock's eyes widen in surprise...

He had known Buffy was strong.. but this strong? The Vulcan pushed with more weight, but her arm did not budge. Spock started to visibly struggle.]

[ she relents. just an inch or two, adjusting to spock's renewed pressure. and she holds her breath.

the trick, she decides, is in fighting back without fighting too hard. it's always been a delicate balance for the slayer: not treating even the friendly clashes like a war-game. luckily, over the last decade, buffy's had the uniquely long opportunity to temper her strength.

she focuses her attention on their joined hands and -- serious now instead of boasting -- she pushes back, trying to direct the vulcan's hand towards the table's top. ]

[Spock planted his feet and gave it his all... but his arm was slowly but surely moving backwards and down towards the table top....

When the Vulcan lost, it was with wide, amazed eyes.]

[ the vulcan isn't a creature of ego. she understand that. she knows it as intimately as one can for having been a vulcan's roommate for a long long time. even still, buffy finds herself drawing her opposite hand onto the table and cupping spock's fingers with her own. a gentle, loose, friendly handholding. affectionate. she transforms her winning stroke into a gesture of friendship. ]

You know, I get a real kick out of that look. That look right there. On you. On anybody. I used to hate it. Now, I just get a real kick...

[ she trails off. ]

[Spock transforms his face into a small smile as he brings his other hand over to cover hers...]

You are an extraordinary individual. And as some would say, life would be 'boring' without surprises.

You are very strong.

The Slayer has to be. [ she returns his smile. and then she speaks again, the cadence of her voice suggesting that she's reciting something written by someone else: ] Into every generation a Slayer is born: one girl in all the world. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. To stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their numbers.

[Spock regards Buffy for a long moment...]

It must be quite the burden for you.

[Spock had found out certain details about Buffy through other residents in Luceti... because Buffy herself was not straight forward with her information.
This though... this power was forced upon her.]

It was. Once. But you get used to it, y'know? It's like--

[ but whatever she's about to say? it's cut off by the arrival of a whole plate of golden, crispy french fries. the slayer smiles and draws her hands back to herself. ]

...Saved by the spuds.

[The moment was definitely broken... Spock returns his hands and stares at the fries incredulously.]

I was not aware that we were in danger... nor that these... potatoes had the ability to save anything.

[ whatever the danger was, she's not elaborating upon it now. instead, she grabs at the glass ketchup bottle and twists off its top. ]

The selection of the first fry is a sacred process. [ the cap comes off with a pleasant little pop. ] You gotta follow your heart. Maybe something particularly crispy attracts your attention? Maybe it's a funny shape. Maybe it looks supremely dippable. Just don't take too long -- [ she's smacking the bottom of the bottle and a few thick dollops of ketchup flow out onto the plate's edge ] -- because they're best when they're still piping hot.

[Spock gives Buffy an incredulous look...and then looks down at the plate of fries.]

You are utilizing humour at this time, yes?

For once? No. I'm dead serious.

[Gives her one last assessing look before regarding the fries once more.

Then, approaching it as if it were a test... he slowly reaches forward, and with a calculated move, plucks a fry from the plate and dips it in the ketchup.
Analyzing it once and seeming satisfied, Spock puts it into his mouth and chews thoughtfully.

After a moment...]

Adequate.

Shut up! [ she grabs a fry of her own, dunking it generously. ] These things are way way more than adequate. They're amazing.

[Spock gives her a small, wry grin as he takes another fry...]

I will say that it is superior to any 'fries' that I have ever had. [Which is none.. good job Spock.]

Seriously?

[ she takes it a little too honestly. ] Even better than future-fries?
