Personal Log #7
[Video]
Greetings and salutations. I believe that it is customary for one to welcome those who are newly arrived into Luceti.
Welcome.
To those who have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I can be found regularly at the Battle Dome for those who want to learn to utilize the simulations.
A reminder to everyone that the Kobayashi Maru simulation has been tested and is ready for public use. I will express my thanks to Mister Obi-Wan Kenobi, Miss Ami Mizuno, and Miss Lirael for testing the program for me.
I also find myself requiring assistance for a project that I have agreed to.... though I find myself now at an impasse. I am currently working on a small scale version of projected diburnium-osmium shield technology... with some minor alterations. If anyone is familiar with this or is willing to help, please inform me.
Peace and long life.
[Action]
[Spock found himself once again frustrated by the recent memory lapse... for one who highly values mental discipline, it is... unnerving to find that your mind has been tampered with. However, Spock has long ago come to terms with this place and its disregard for dignity.
In the morning Spock can be found at the Dome by the computer terminals...but in the late afternoon strange, hauntingly beautiful music can be heard coming from House #2's backyard.
The Vulcan was pleased to have completed his Lyre, and was now enjoying an afternoon of practice.
In the evening, Spock actually ventures out to Seventh Heaven and can be found at a solitary table with a cup of tea.
Come and bother Spock at any and all of these locations.]

[Action] passing by on her way home, neighbor!
Following it, soon enough, she found Spock. Rather than interrupt while he was in the middle of the piece, she stood quietly by the wall of the house and waited for him to finish first.]

The Vulcan looked over and gave Ami a fond look.]
Greetings Miss Mizuno.

Good evening. That was very beautiful! It felt familiar, somehow. [This, she simply attributes to Spock's skill level.]

This.. [Spock props up the instrument for Ami to inspect...] Is a Vulcan lyre.
[voice]
If it's alright, could you show me how it's played?
Re: [voice]
Please, as they say, 'pull up a chair'... I would be most honoured to show you how to use the Vulcan lyre.
[voice]
[The question comes out before she can stop herself. Back home, she'd rarely had opportunities to do something like this, something... creative, instead of academic. Musical.
With an artist for a father, she'd like to think creativity runs in her blood, somewhere, but it's underdeveloped behind the doctor.
Not waiting to be told twice, she comes closer.]
Re: [voice]
Once she is situated he hands her the instrument.]
Please place your fore, and ring fingers here... [Spock indicated where...]
Strum across the strings with your other hand, then turn this dial. I encourage you to experiment with the dial, as it is used to alter the sound.
[voice]
Learning the notes will be more difficult; she listens closely to Spock, and confirms frequently:]
Here?
Re: [voice]
[Did Spock look hopeful? It was difficult to tell on a Vulcan.]
[voice]
I'd like that very much. It's a chance to learn something new, and to see whether I can succeed at that.
Re: [voice]
You have a talent for this art... I am certain you will learn quickly.
[voice]
That's part of why she wants to do it.]
I never had a lot of time before, to try things like this, that are so different from what I usually do. It's my first time trying to play an instrument.
Re: [voice]
My mother never could handle the Lyre.... she was more fond of the piano.
[voice]
Re: [voice]
How would it be best to teach Miss Mizuno....]
Do you read music?
[voice]
Re: [voice]
[Spock hesitated for a moment...]
Miss Mizuno... I had been wondering... and I wish to ask you for a favour. [Not that he was using this as an excuse or anything.]
[voice]
What is it? [If it's something she can do, she'd be quick to agree.]
Re: [voice]
Very much like his own...]
[voice]
I'd be very happy to do that, to the best of my ability.
Re: [voice]
And I felt rather helpless when my Captain returned from a kidnapping. [Spock's fingers nervously twitched along the lyre...]
[voice]
Re: [voice]
[Spock hesitates once more...]
Miss Mizuno, have you heard the rumours of certain individuals having discovered the way home?
[voice]
That type of rumor seems to circulate every so often. There's no conclusive proof of it, and...
I'd like to believe, if it were true, they'd find a way to tell the rest of us, too.
