Personal Log #7
[Video]
Greetings and salutations. I believe that it is customary for one to welcome those who are newly arrived into Luceti.
Welcome.
To those who have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I can be found regularly at the Battle Dome for those who want to learn to utilize the simulations.
A reminder to everyone that the Kobayashi Maru simulation has been tested and is ready for public use. I will express my thanks to Mister Obi-Wan Kenobi, Miss Ami Mizuno, and Miss Lirael for testing the program for me.
I also find myself requiring assistance for a project that I have agreed to.... though I find myself now at an impasse. I am currently working on a small scale version of projected diburnium-osmium shield technology... with some minor alterations. If anyone is familiar with this or is willing to help, please inform me.
Peace and long life.
[Action]
[Spock found himself once again frustrated by the recent memory lapse... for one who highly values mental discipline, it is... unnerving to find that your mind has been tampered with. However, Spock has long ago come to terms with this place and its disregard for dignity.
In the morning Spock can be found at the Dome by the computer terminals...but in the late afternoon strange, hauntingly beautiful music can be heard coming from House #2's backyard.
The Vulcan was pleased to have completed his Lyre, and was now enjoying an afternoon of practice.
In the evening, Spock actually ventures out to Seventh Heaven and can be found at a solitary table with a cup of tea.
Come and bother Spock at any and all of these locations.]

Re: [voice]
There is a viewing area located on the second floor... you can utilize this area to observe other simulations in process. The medical center is also located in the Dome... it is managed by one Doctor Trafalgar Law. If you have suffered from any injuries, I would suggest you go there.
[voice]
...Actually, it makes sense to have it at the Dome. This is a backwater little place.
Re: [voice]
I do not understand how the location of water has any effect of where the medical center is located.
[voice]
[A beat. Did he really have to explain something this simple?]
Don't take it literally.
Re: [voice]
Very well. May I inquire as to what you meant by it?
[voice]
[He hoped that this man wasn't from a place that was backwater in a different way...]
It's kinda like...kinda like you have a port. [Yes, he was going to use nautical terms here.] And this port is a bustling, busy place. Get's all of the trade goods, the inventions, the philosophy....
Then you have a little town further down the river. It's around a bend, and stuck in a...bayou, that's it. This little village ain't near as metropolitan as the other place. That's why we use 'backwater' to describe little places like this.
[He made it up on the fly, but it made sense. He hoped.]
Re: [voice]
I believe I comprehend what you are trying to express.
I agree with your terminology, that this is indeed a 'backwater' place. The technological advancement leaves much to be desired... yet at the same time it gives an opportunity for a challenging atmosphere.
[voice]
Sound's like you're from a fairly developed place. What is diburnium-osmium anyway?

Re: [voice]
I was asked to work on shielding the enclosure... though I do not know how successful I will be as materials are very limited.
[voice]
Seeing as diburnium-osmium ain't common even at home? That might be tricky. You looking for some kinda conductor for this?

Re: [voice]
Am I correct in assuming that you are from a later time period than most in Luceti?
[voice]
[There was a pause, then:]
It's something like that. But, this place ain't so bad. You never realize how nice electricity is until it's not there.
Re: [voice]
I have found a rather suitable replacement in an aluminum alloy... But there's an element missing.
[voice]
Twentieth-century Earth level tech here, right? You try copper? If I'm thinking correct, copper was used in most electronics from that time. Should be easy enough to get.
Re: [voice]
By amplifying their power, it could be used to create an energy field... An aluminum and copper alloy could be utilized to break down the particles and thus creating a barrier...
Not exactly up to Starfleet standards... but unfortunately, it is all I have to work with here.
Do you have any ideas?
[voice]
I'm no engineer, but I've gotta few ideas. Lookin' at what we've got? Try some kinda wet cell. Should be easy enough to rig up.
Re: [voice]
Your logic is sound....
Would you be amenable to assisting me with this operation?
[voice]
And I'm also still pretty new in town but, y'know... it might be more entertaining than hitting a few bags in the barracks. I'm not gonna make any promises though, 'cause I've already got my own gig.
Re: [voice]
[Spock considers something for a moment...] How have you and your companions been adjusting to Luceti?
[voice]
Eeh. It's nothing that special, but the electricity's nice. One of my friends is pretty fond of the Dome already. But, he liked his battle sims even at home.
Me? I prefer a live opponent. It's more fun that way.
