(ooc: continued from here)

[Lupin noticed that surprise just from a subtle change in Spock's tone. Being able to read the Vulcan so well would forever baffle Lupin.]

My mother was Japanese, and so are most of my friends. I spend as much time in Tokyo as I do Rio or Barcelona, and it's hard not to pick up some regional quirks. It just gets too hot for a suit in the summer, so a yukata is the way to go if you want to be covered but comfortable.

[He slowed his chattering when they entered his flat, and Lupin took a deep breath. The idle cigarette, now barely more than a stub, was snuffed out in a nearby saucer that he was using as a temporary ash tray.]

Go on ahead and get yourself settled. I'll be with you in a minute.

[The windows needed to be opened while it was still warm enough to do so, and he needed to find the yukata in question.]

[Lupin had noticed--it was why he kept himself close to Spock throughout the evening. He didn't have to be alone in case there was an emergency.]

It's also a matter of physics. [He shed his jacket and scarf as he spoke, no longer caring to be discreet about Spock's gift to him. It was a great boon, but one that he was being careful with. People didn't need to know about his problems if it wasn't necessary.

Lupin flipped through the clothes in his closet in search for the yukata in question.]
Different colors absorb or reflect heat at different rates, but there is also a cultural significance to them. A white flower, seen as something pure and untouched in Europe, represents death in parts of Asia.

[He located the yukata and knocked on the door before cracking it open to pass of to Spock. The man deserved his privacy, after all.

That didn't stop him from leaning against the nearby wall.]

Vulcan. Desert planet. The winter here is going to be rough for you if we're not careful.

[Lupin nodded in approval; the dark colors suited Spock, and the burnished gold detailing was noticeably elegant.]

There's no real significance. It's just something I picked up in Shizuoka a few years back. Nice, isn't it?

[He led Spock down the hall.]

You can sleep in the room at the far end...[a moment's pause when he opened the door to reveal the furnished but as yet unembellished room, ...here. At least it's got pillows and blankets, right?

[That shift in tone gave Lupin pause enough to reach out and grab the sleeve of Spock's yukata.]

If you need anything--anything at all--I'm right next door. There's no shame in asking for an assist. [Not that he ever did, but that was for completely different reasons. It was an old habit born of necessity, but Spock didn't lead nearly as rough a lifestyle. He lived by different rules...

This wasn't playing by them. This was respecting them.

Lupin withdrew, but lingered in the door for a moment.]

I'll be literally on the other side of this wall.

[It was a parting comment, because he would literally go silent once he went to bed. He left the little device that Spock had given him sitting on the nightstand while he slept, lest he accidentally damage it.

He withdrew completely, leaving the door cracked open behind him, and went to his own room to get ready for bed.]

[--

That pulled Lupin from his quick, deep slumber.

He staggered out of bed, still groggy from sleep and off center from his singularly pointed focus on getting to Spock and not on where the ground actually was. Lupin fell heavily against a wall, but braced himself against it just long enough to regain his center. He could use it as a guide in the dark, and did.

Lupin found his way into Spock's room, and was glad for the gaslights that lined the pathways and the clear sky that night. The sky was always clearest before a storm.]

Spock?

[It was a question, asked out of concern, that wafted soundlessly in the night. Lupin silently cursed. Of course the Malnosso were going to keep screwing with him! The rush of nerves cleared his focus enough to slowly cross the distance from the door to Spock's bed.

A moment's hesitation was his final obstacle before he reached out and gently shook Spock's shoulder.]

but there's no one there to keep it warm~

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-10-14 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[The subtle reaction wasn't noticed. Lupin's attention was focused on what he could see...and what he could judge by sound and by touch. He sighed with some relief when he heard Spock's breathing normalize, but there was still that lingering concern.

He was only trained in the superficial, and that was through experience alone. Lupin centered his focus and took the only option that was left to him. He took Spock's hand with his own and reached out for the link that he didn't even know how to find.]

Sa-kai...?
redjacketthief: (focused--intently so)

that...works |D

[Lupin stills at the onslaught of thoughts and memories and feelings that weren't his. They were too heavy, too raw for him to fully grasp. While he was playful and flighty and dorky, most of that was a cover for him. His skills weren't as overt as Spock's, but he had learned how to use his excessive energy and lightning-quick thinking to his advantage.

It was of no benefit here. The grief over what happened, the pain of millions of lives lost, and the unbridled fury that Spock himself could barely contain. 'Emotionally compromised'--

The meager foundations that Spock erected were torn down by the whims of the Malnosso.

Lupin gripped his hand tighter, and called out once more through that still unfound link.]

Spock? I'm here. Talk to me.
redjacketthief: @ rerun (smirk-- get it now?)

no problem~

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-10-14 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Lupin was equally unwilling, though for practicality's sake. It was once again their easiest means of communication. He briskly waved his free hand, flustered by the gratitude.

Apologies weren't necessary. It was why he made sure they were so close.

He sat wearily on the edge of the bed, grateful for something solid to grasp as an anchor, and tried to offer a reassuring smile in the dark. He squeezed their connected hands once again, in case the smile was missed.]

Bad dreams?
redjacketthief: @ narben (unsure-- what?)

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-10-14 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Going for days on less wasn't unusual for him...but these were unusual times and circumstances.

Spock's explanation about Vulcan's and their lack of dreams felt off to him. Spock was still half human. There was documented evidence in his world that humans, for one reason or another, needed to dream in order to survive. No one could explain how or why this was necessary.

Despite his reluctance to comply with Spock's suggestion, he knew it was necessary. The fatigue wouldn't go away unless he did properly rest, and their current discussion was a rare moment when his wings were in the open.

This was his own home and, despite the chill outside, he liked to sleep without a shirt on. The loose fitting pants remained, but the chill that creeped through the tight windows was starting to sink in. His skin was starting to prickle and his wings folded tight to conserve heat.

He knew what the answer was.]

If you insist...you know where I'll be.

[Lupin withdrew his hand, disconnecting their physical link in the process, and offered a nod before he stumbled back to bed.]
redjacketthief: @ starkxravingxmad (passed out)

oh ROFL

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-10-14 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Lupin shifted at the light sound of the door opening, but didn't stir. The events of the evening were tiring, and his body was taking advantage of the opportunity to rest. A regular sleeping pattern kept the worst of the vertigo at bay, and it was far better for him than his periodic stints of staying up for days on end before crashing.]
redjacketthief: @ rerun (-jigen- got my back?)

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-10-14 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[His wings, red like his favorite jacket that had been ruined last March and was still being worked on under a commission, fluttered slightly at the sudden exposure and change in tactile pressure. Only when Lupin slept and they were no longer tucked under the seams and lines of his remaining green jacket did they have free reign.

He shifted at the added weight to the mattress and huffed in curiosity at the sudden presence of a body and warmth. Still groggy, he reached for Spock's hand. Lupin couldn't say how he knew that his companion was Spock. Perhaps it was his instinctual memory of their difference in body temperature. Perhaps it was the link.

Lupin shifted closer to take advantage of the warmth.]

This better...?

[Their link was the best option. He would never have found his voice when he was only steps away from returning to his dreams.]

10/12 late evening

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-10-16 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[The warmth and the steam of the natural springs in the mountains was a shocking change from the wind and the chill that had blown in with the front in the middle of the week. The subtle change in pressure had gotten to Lupin then, though he had managed to keep the worst of the spins at bay with just taking his time, and he wondered when the change in altitude would get him over this trip. He hadn't tested this factor at all over the last few months, and was starting to question the wisdom of that decision.

Regardless, they were there in the changing room.

Lupin sat on a bench with his eyes closed and willed his focus to clear after that trip through the teleporter. The jump had thrown him off, like prior experiences with teleporting had before. His efforts were only partly effective, but he was in a closed environment with a person who knew the details.

...had been in his head.

He still wasn't sure how comfortable he was with his level of bonding with Spock, but it was there. He could deal.

Just like he could deal with a little dizziness.]

Hey, Spock. You ready?

[Not that there was much to get ready for. All that they needed to do was strip and rinse off, but 'being ready' was more than just physical. After the last few weeks, Lupin wasn't going to push Spock for a while.]
