Personal Log #18 - [Action - All Day]

The Dome:

[One of the simulator doors is wide open for anyone to see inside, and for the most part, the room is empty... except for a tv, and a large couch; the back of which is facing the door. For anyone who knows the Vulcan well, they'll recognize the cap of neat, black hair sticking above the back of the couch. What will seem odd though are the sounds coming from the room...

...sounds, for those who would recognize them, that resemble something like video games from the mid eighties to early nineties.

If anyone dares to venture into the room and walks around the couch, they'll see the floor littered with games for the various consoles set up by the tv. Currently, Spock is engrossed with Super Mario Bros for the SNES, his eyebrows and mouth fixated in a scary looking frown as he navigates through the levels.]

[ooc: Spock has been gone for just about two weeks, and is now suffering under a inconvenient effect: he's addicted to video games. For those who would like to jump in on this, there are extra controllers. *hint hint*

[Spock doesn't look up from the screen, he simply plays on, his fists clenching slightly when he loses a life.]

You are familiar with these devices? Fascinating. I had not seen them before today.

I am, actually. I use to play with these when I was younger. It's a Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

[Nevermind that he too is a Nintendo character, but he doesn't know that.]

[The Vulcan finally manages to pause the game and look over at the other man.]

I am Spock. Who are you?

Lance. It's good to meet you.

[He then comes around the couch and extends his hand... though he pauses and leans slightly. His brow furrowed a bit as he notices the man's pointed ears and peculiar complexion.]

[Spock looks at the hand, then back up at Lance.] Forgive me if I do not take your hand, it is a cultural condition. However, would you care to join me in a game?

[Either way, he's not going to be able to stop playing for very long. But Spock sees the question in Lance's eyes... about what Spock is.]

[Well, he's seen stranger things here in Luceti, and Lance isn't about to be rude. So he leaves the question for now and instead sits down, not minding the handshake rejection.]

Sure. I'm going to be a little rusty though.

[With that he takes up the second player controller.]

[Considering he has yet to play with anyone who knew what they were doing, someone who possessed some skill was going to be a breath of fresh air.]

That is not an issue. I believe, however, that the point of these games is.... fun, is it not?

[He gets up, and puts in an old racing game instead. He's wanted something with a little more competition.]

That's true.

[And while Spock is busy with putting in another game, something catches Lance's eye. He then leans over and pulls out a copy of Pokemon Stadium and just... stares.]

[Spock pauses when he sees Lance still...]

Is there something that caught your interest? Would you care to play that game instead?
[The Vulcan wondered if the other man was okay.]

Would you mind? I... haven't seen this one before.

[Mind=Blown.]

[Spock quirks an eyebrow, his hand stilling before he puts the game into the console.]

You seem to be having an unexpected reaction. Are you feeling well?

[Lance blinks out of his stupor and looks at Spock a little sheepishly.]

You make it sound like an allergy. I'm fine. Let's play!

[The Vulcan gives Lance one more assessing look before turning once more to the game. The start-up screen appears, and they're given an option of various mini-games.]

Would you prefer to go to the Battle Arena?

[This should probably seem more surreal, considering the situation. Where's Kirk when you need him?]

[Lance stares for a moment as several familiar species of Pokemon flash across the screen. But he nods at Spock's question.]

Yes, let's do that.

[Spock has the player 1 control after all and is pretty much in charge of navigating the menus.]

[The selection is made, and it comes down to Lance's turn to choose his Pokemon.]

Do you have a preference?

[By pressing start, Lance activates his ability to choose his Pokemon.]

I do actually.

[And with that he begins to select them in short order. Dragonair, Dragonite, Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl... uh... uuuh. Lapras.

He then looks to Spock and waits for him to choose his six.]

[Twenty minutes later has Spock frowning at the screen as Lance wipes the floor with him....

The Vulcan may or may not be a sore loser.]

Impressive strategy. You have played this game before?

[Lance is looking pretty pleased with himself too.]

Well... not exactly. In my world we kind of... do this in real life.

[Spock looks over at Lance incredulously.]

Is this game accurate to your experiences?
[He couldn't even begin to imagine that it was closer to the real thing.]

[Lance looks back with a little grin.]

Well... as accurate as a video game can be I suppose.

[Spock looks at the screen, then back at Lance.]

These creatures, these 'pokemon' exist where you are from?

That's right. I have three of them with me.

[Lance then reaches down to his side and holds up three small red and white spheres that Spock would undoubtedly recognize from the game.]

[Something twitched in Spock's mind. Normally, he would be all over this, wanting to see these pokemon and ask all the questions.
But the affect that he was under wouldn't let him.
Instead, he gave an interesting nod, and turned back to the tv.]

Shall we continue?

[He hated himself just a little bit in that moment.]

[Since he doesn't actually know Spock, Lance doesn't think anything of it.]

Sure. Think you can beat me this time?

[A little grin as he starts up the next game.]

[Twenty minutes later finds Spock once more frowning at the screen as Lance's team dances in victory.]

It would seem that I need to adjust my strategy....

[Again dammit!]
